1Timothy 2:1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. (NIV)
My neighbor came to visit us at our home this morning. After a few minutes, she commented “ You know, I always feel such peace when I walk into your home.”
She went on to give credit to my beautiful wife Cindie and to me. And then she also said that she felt such a presence of God in our home. Obviously, this made me feel good because I knew that it was God in our lives that made the difference.
As this passage says, God wants us to “live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” We all desire peace in our lives. We just go about trying to achieve that peace in different ways.
Some think that peace comes with wealth; that it is only then that they can do all that they want to do and have all that they want to have. They confuse peace with financial security.
Others think they will find peace by living in a paradise, maybe Florida or California. Perhaps others think they will find peace if they can retire at thirty-five.
What is your idea of peace? This passage tells us that peace comes through prayer. I know some Christians that are not at peace. They are lacking a prayer life.
Set aside time each day for prayer, and the peace of God that transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
